Cracker !

Hey Guys and Gals,

The time has come for another Storm Awesome post. Once again it has been a cracker of a week and good things, or should I say great things are coming your way ! Firstly, lets start with Energy Related. As you know, we have been in studio recording the re-release of The Strings of Life Album which was recorded recently at Wired Sound Studios. I had the pleasure of taking photos this past Sunday for the Album cover and art work. We had three areas planned out and on our quest to peruse each location we were unexpectedly interrupted by numerous squatters wanting to get in on our photo shoot. This happened for the first two locations and by the third one, we were able to find a masterpiece for shooting without any photo bombers. Keep a look out on this shoot ! This Sunday I am also doing a photo shoot with Donovan Fourie in the launch of his new solo project: Tha Don. Really looking forward to the idea we have for this and no doubt the solo vibes from Don are going to be off the hook.

Next up, Jenna Sighed has been in full force recently playing many venues and getting our sound out there. We recently did a show at The Doors which was filmed using a GoPro drum cam. Courtesy of Garret Richardson from Flying Floyd Productions. This has gotten my Youtube channel going and features work I have done with other bands: The Carniwhores, Sloppy Folk, Submachine and The Death Valley Blues Band.  I am going to be keeping it updated with more live footage from gigs and perhaps some percussive solo's and some online lessons. This is all in the pipeline. Please feel free to watch my videos and subscribe to my channel for further updates.

You can also catch Jenna Sighed this Saturday at Emalyth's event: The Apostle Lament.
The Show is at Black Dahlia, Boksburg and doors open at 1pm. So you can catch a cocktail on the deck before watching the bands starting from 3pm. We will be on from 5pm. Hope to catch ya all there.

Thanks for reading and I have some very exciting things happening. Follow me on any social media, this blog and Youtube channel to catch a whiff of what The Awesome is cooking !

The Birthday Month

Hey Guys and Girls !

It is The Awesome here again for another Awesome post. My last post was entitled "Party on to July". And  July has definitely been that Party. The beginning of the month started off with a bang as Jenna Sighed and myself roadtripped our way down to Rustenburg. We had a show at the newly formed Step Up Club. Wesley our bassist and myself took a ride in Dirty Sanchez (My little Tata). So with our bags packed and cars loaded we left on Saturday afternoon, the 7th. The two hour trip went quickly what with my metal compilation disc turning and our conversations changing subjects we finally arrived. Rustenburg is such a great town and the main reason in my eyes is the friendly people. After our arrival and the unpacking of gear we went upstairs to the venue and were presented with a huge band room to set up our gear and keep all our hardware bags and cases there. We played the show and Wesley and myself tackled the road back to Jozi. It truly was a magical show !

A day later I received a call from my friend Zam Boney. A lot of you may know him through the Slashdogs or Carniwhores but for those of you that don't know. He is currently jamming for Jet Black Camaro. Now this band knows how to rock. Their drummer Fano had to work last Friday in some one horse town and could not make the show at the Bohemian. So I got a call to stand in and "dep" for them for a one off show. The show featured The Stellas album launch for their new EP, Live Charge and consisted of Black Math from Durban. In preparation for this show, I had one week to learn 10 songs from their set. We had a rehearsal to run through the tunes on Wednesday and Friday right before the show. No pressure :) I got the 10 songs down with their structure, feel and tempo. Then just the little problem areas such as counts from one pause to another and when do I come in and we had it down.
Friday night was a great party filled to the brim with rock n' roll, dance moves and honey.

For things to come, I am doing a show with Jenna Sighed on the 28th July. It is an Emalyth show - The Apostle's Lament. Rumours Lounge. I am pasting the facebook event at the bottom of this post.
Also, in the pipeline is two photo shoots for Donovan Fourie (from Energy Related). He is going to be launching some solo vibes too. This will be called The Don. Very interested to hear this and be a part of the photography team.

That's all for this week from The Awesome. Thanks for reading this and hope to catch you at a show, a shoot or someplace else

PS. Thank you to everyone for the lovely birthday messages, wishes, presents and hugs ! (For last week)

Party on to July

Hey Guys and Gals,

Welcome to another post by The Awesome. So whats news and what has been happening. Last weekend, was definitely in the "whats happening" section. I did some shows with Jenna Sighed. Friday was Part 1 of The Battle for Woodstock. The Battle was held at Boston Rock Lounge in Edenvale and brought together a sweet selection of Joburg's finest. It has been a while since I have been at Boston's and noticed quite a few changes and improvements made. I also got to see some old friends who I have not seen for some time. The evening was truly nostalgic. For those of you who have not been here, it is one of the few venues with an upper stage for the drummer. I had the best seat in the house as I could look down on the band and watch people dancing, sipping on their beers and having a great time.

Saturday morning I had a photo shoot with the boys from Because of Betrayal. The lads are really cool guys and we walked out there with close to 400 shots. They were all prepared with change of outfit and instruments in hand along with some beautiful Albion amps. You can check out these edited photos soon on my Photography page listed below. They will be up in due time.

Saturday night I played with Jenna Sighed at the Doors Nightclub. Organized and run by Black Apple Productions, the show dubbed "Punk VS Metal" was a great success. The line up featured talented bands and the sound and lighting provided by Bomb Squad was mind blowing. I had my buddy there, Garrett Richardson. We set up a GoPro camera to get some "drum cam" shots. He also did some other shots of the bands as a whole. We are going to get this all edited and I will be able to show you all once it is completed.

Things really have been busy lately and I am looking at putting something very special together quite soon. I don't want to give too many details out now but when the time is right, I will let the cat out. This Saturday I am road tripping my way to Rustenburg. We are playing at the Step Up Club which I have never been to, but have heard awesome things. The last time I played in Rustenburg, I did two sets in succession with Submachine and Death Valley Blue Band respectively. It was on a Coca Cola truck and the party was intense. And no doubt, this will be the same (with the exception of the truck).

I want to give a BIG Shout out to my Endorsees, Music Mate for always being so kind and awesome to me. I can be found under their website now under their Endorsee list. And with next week Wednesday being my Birthday I am going to swing past their Parkmeadows branch and grab me some new toys !

Well that's it for this week from The Awesome. It is almost Friday and the weekend is here soon !
Have a great one folks !
